Obituary for Jerry Loftin

Jerry Loftin
Jerry Lee Loftin, 76, of Hernando, Mississippi, went to be with his saviour Jesus Christ, whom he loved with all his heart, on Tuesday, November 22, 2016. Mr. Loftin was born October 18, 1940 to the late J. L. and Bettye Brown Loftin of West Memphis, Arkansas. In his career as a CPA, Jerry worked for various companies including Ernst & Ernst, before retiring from Mobile Process Technology. Jerry was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Hernando, Mississippi where at one point he served as Treasurer. He was a devoted member of the choir and a respected teacher of his Sunday School class.
Mr. Loftin attended West Memphis High School where he played French Horn in the All-State band. Following high school he attended Georgia Tech. He served his country in the Navy, primarily stationed in Italy. Upon leaving the service he furthered his education and received his accounting degree from the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee. Jerry was an avid sports fan, and strong supporter of the St. Louis Cardinals and University of Memphis Tigers.
Mr. Loftin was also a member of the Certified Public Accountants Association and had served as Trustee for the Baptist Memorial Health Care Center.
Aside from his relationship with Christ and his love of family, Jerry’s passion was running races and marathons. Throughout his participation he cultivated many friendships. His devotion truly motivated and encouraged those around him.
Mr. Loftin loved the Lord and was deeply committed to expressing that love through serving others. Although he preferred not to be recognized he touched many lives and will always be an inspiration to those he met. He participated in several missions to places like Belize and Zimbabwe, Africa to help those in need. He assisted in the Operation Christmas Child in Atlanta, Georgia. He also spent time volunteering with the Literacy Council in Hernando, Mississippi. He traveled to Glorietta, New Mexico to serve in whatever capacity necessary for the Glorietta Baptist Conference Center. Most recently he felt led to help others at the Heartland Hands Food Bank in Southaven, Mississippi. One mission that was very dear to his heart was the Calvary Rescue Mission in Memphis, Tennessee. He loved ministering to the wonderful people he met there. Jerry Loftin was a compassionate, loving man who found great joy in helping others.
Jerry spent a great time studying in his Bible and one verse that he took to heart and strove to abide by was I Thessalonians 5: 16-18, “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” His love and presence will be sorely missed by many.
Jerry Loftin was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Becky Tucker. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Anita Loftin; his brother, Davis Loftin (Karlene), Gary Strachn (Gail), Jerry Tucker (Betty); his children, Kelley Dollar, Sherry Dean (Jonathan) and Paul Stewart (Karen); his grandchildren, Dr. Nikki Beloate, Michael Stewart (Lindsey), Alex Stewart, Steven Dollar, Aaron Beloate, Seth Stewart, David Stewart and Adam Stewart; great grand-daughters, Anna Stewart and Emily Stewart; nieces and nephews, Ronnie Tucker, Debbie Watters (Tab), Stacey Campbell (Jason), Laura McDowell (Gavin); great nieces and nephews, Ashley Watters, Madison Campbell, Drake Watters, Gavin Trent Cambell, Copper Campbell and Rees Campbell; cousins; and his Parkway Baptist Church family.
