Obituary for Margaret Ann McMahan

Margaret Ann McMahan

Margaret Ann Wilkins McMahan passed away on Tuesday, April 26th in Bartlett, Tennessee from complications of Alzheimer’s. The wife of the late Dr. Richard W. L. McMahan (Dick), she is also preceded in death by her son, Richard McMahan (Rick) Jr. and son in-law, Graham Bell.

Mrs. McMahan was the consummate caregiver. The middle child in a family of nine, she nurtured and generously loved her younger siblings as well as the next two generations of family. Her career as a kindergarten teacher further exemplified her loving devotion to guiding children on the path to achievement and independence. Those fortunate to have benefitted from her instruction retain a treasure chest of nursery rhymes, fairy tales and songs that have guided their development through childhood and into adulthood. Mrs. McMahan’s first teaching skills emerged when she began teaching her ballet skills to children at Bellevue Private School.

She is survived by her daughter Carol Bell, grandchildren Rebecca (M.Chris) Bowers of Bartlett, TN, Dani (James Shaner) Bell of Memphis, TN and Brad and Carrie McMahan of Jackson MS. Great grandchildren Airianna, Xander, Andrya Skye, Lillian and Carolynn, her sisters: Mary Len Costa of New Orleans and Jackie Johnson of Maumelle, AR, daughter-in-law Lynda Assink of Jackson, MS, and an extended family of nieces and nephews and their families.
